Welcome to the Brazilian Mission to the European Union
  (BRASEUROPA)

The Brazilian Mission to the European Communities was established in 1963 in Brussels to represent the Brazilian interests in Europe when the regional integration was increasing due to the strengthening of the community institutions. It was henceforth clear for the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations that the relations with an integrated Europe were strategically important.

Time has confirmed this vision. Today, the European Union is a major partner for Brazil and Mercosur. By signing the Interregional Framework Co-operation Agreement UE-Mercosur in December 1995, the historical bilateral relations received a new impetus. It also allowed a negotiation process, currently in progress, aimed at creating an interregional association in the political, economical, commercial and cooperation fields. The regular summits between the heads of State and Government of the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean - the first held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1999 - have been strengthening the bonds between the two regions.

Hence, in that framework, the Brazilian Mission has a growing responsibility. Apart from its traditional function representing and promoting the national interests to the European institutions, the Mission has also played a prominent part in establishing a dialogue with the other diplomatic representations in Brussels and coordinating their common positions, especially with the Mercosur partners.

This page offers links to several sites where you will be able to read about Brazil and its diplomatic representations and also about the European Union. You can also send the Mission an e-mail by means of the Contact link.

The Brazilian Mission hopes it will contribute to intensifying the dialogue between public authorities and civil society, in accordance with the transparency principle that guides the diplomatic activity in a democratic regime.
